On previous visits to Rossmoor, Scales-Preston accompanied Congressman Mark DeSaulnier. She is the District Director for his local office. Before this she had worked for Congressman George Miller. In 2018, she was elected to the Pittsburg City Council. After winning re-election in 2022, she served as Mayor in 2023.
