Event Description

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Democrats of Rossmoor will hold their monthly TGWD meeting in the Fireside Room at 4:00pm. Bring a snack to share. If you want alcohol at this event, you must bring your own beverage. The program for this meeting will feature two speakers, Jennifer Davis and John Beed, both long-time Foreign Service employees. They will speak, via Zoom, about their work at the State Department and USAID and about the impact of changes made by the new administration.

Most recently, Jennifer Davis served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. This is the bureau within the State Department which sets policies on population, refugees, and migration. Her previous assignments include Chief of Staff to the US Ambassador to the United Nations, US Council General in Istanbul, Turkey, and Executive Assistant to US Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry. She has also been assigned to missions in Columbia, Brussels and Mexico City. She has both a B.A. and law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a degree in international law from the University of Oxford in England.

John Beed is a former senior Foreign Service officer who worked on economic development, education and health programs in Asia, Africa, and across the Americas, working for USAID for more than twenty years. He was the Director for that agency in Guatemala, India, and Paraguay. While assigned to Japan as the Development Cooperation Counselor, he helped to organize relief aid after the disasters which struck that country in 2011. Earlier, he worked as a congressional staffer. Deed earned degrees from Tulane University and Florida State.
