Event Description

Rossmoor residents and friends are cordially invited to attend the November film program sponsored by Rossmoor’s Democratic Club held in Peacock Hall on Monday November 11th, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:30pm.

The charming and uplifting documentary Zulu Summer (2018), written and directed by Jospeh Litzinger and Eric Schrader, can best be described as a real life Coming to America! This sweet-natured movie chronicles the unlikely summer that Zulu Prince Siboniso and two colleagues spend in Butte, Montana!

The film follows their stranger-than-fiction story to learn more about America by traveling from Nongoma, South Africa and visiting Butte, Montana for an entire summer. Ironically, Butte is a liberal stronghold in a solidly conservative state which becomes a perfect spot for this visit.

Inevitably, Zulu Summer reaffirms the value of humanity’s common ground as the story revolves around people from opposite sides of the planet who come together to learn from one another – which seems both vital and urgent in our current global landscape.

The film runs 2 hours and provides English subtitles. Film enthusiast Lynne Thorner will facilitate a post-viewing discussion based on a lively exchange of ideas and insights. Please direct any questions or concerns to Lynne at [email protected].
