This comic documentary, which was written, directed and narrated by Michael Moore, playfully “invades” other nations to show what America can learn from various countries in Europe and Africa. Moore discovers that there is much that America could emulate, such as Italy’s vacation allotments, France’s gourmet school lunches, Norway’s prison system, Tunisia’s progressive women policies, and Iceland’s strong female presence in government.
The film earned many film festival awards for Best Feature Documentary. Critics agree that “Moore’s latest documentary takes us back to the fun and wit that made his earlier work so refreshingly entertaining.” The presentation does not feel either “preachy” or “anti-American” and reviews suggest that “Moore takes a human-interest approach as he presents lifestyles, politics, and privileges in countries other than America.”
The movie runs 2 hours and offers subtitles. Film enthusiast Lynne Thorner will facilitate an interactive post viewing discussion that examines the film’s message. Please direct any concerns or questions to Lynne at [email protected].
