Event Description

On Monday May 12, 2025,  The Democrats of Rossmoor will sponsor the outstanding narrative film, The Six Triple Eight (2024) in Peacock Hall at 1:00 – 3:30 pm.

Based on actual events, this WWII historical movie focuses on the remarkable solution to the 3-year backlog of undelivered mail to soldiers on the front lines. To fix the problem, The 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion – which included over 850 Black female soldiers – is sent to tackle the monumental task and seemingly impossible challenge of sorting more than 17 million pieces of mail!

Written and directed by Tyler Perry, this impressively well researched film clearly respects its noteworthy topic. Perry vividly portrays how the remarkable achievements of these Black women directly impacted the troops’ morale, despite the overt discrimination they endured and the adversity they faced from skeptical officers.

Historical records document that The Six Triple Eight was incredibly efficient, extremely thorough, and remarkably fast in their task – in spite of the harassment, misogyny and racial obstacles they faced!  In fact, the extraordinary efforts of the women of  The 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion ultimately earned a well-deserved place in military history.

The film runs 2 hours 7 minutes and provides subtitles! Film enthusiast Lynne Thorner will help facilitate a lively post-viewing conversation with the audience.  Please direct any of your questions or concerns to Lynne Thorner at [email protected].
