Walnut Creek City Council Candidates – Nov 2024

Top Priorities

Cindy Darling (Incumbent) Endorsed by Democrats of Rossmoor

  • A healthy, green, sustainable Walnut Creek
  • A community that is safe for all and has something for everyone
  • Economic prosperity and a local economy that works for everyone

Kevin Wilk (Incumbent) Endorsed by Democrats of Rossmoor

  • Ensure public safety for residents and visitors. This includes crime prevention, and also high-tech equipment like hi-def cameras and license plate readers, to catch criminals before they can commit more crimes.
  • Keep Walnut Creek the vibrant and terrific progressive community to live, work, play and visit. This includes continuing to aggressively combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gases.
  • Continue to protect LGBTQ+, diversity in our residents and protecting Planned Parenthood patients/staff. I have been a leading voice speaking out against antisemitism and hate and will continue to speak out for all marginalized communities.

Craig DeVinney

  • Prioritizing our most pressing social issues, including our mental health crisis, our housing needs, unhoused population, needs of our aging population, and creating a safe, diverse and inclusive environment for everyone.
  • Sustainable thinking, preserving our open spaces and protecting our environment, fostering a city that promotes sustainable building and looks to alternate modes of transportation.
  • Creating a vibrant, experience rich downtown, full of art and culture and supporting our local economy and small businesses

Brendan Moran

  • Promoting responsible development that balances growth with environmental stewardship.
  • Supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs and attracting new industries and cultivating our vibrant arts and culture scene.
  • Improving public safety through community engagement, transparency, and accountability.

Laura Patch

  • Improve the walkability of Walnut Creek, especially around downtown. This means better public transit, more trees, safer intersections, and strategic adding of bike lanes.
  • Encourage sustainable buildings by incentivizing electrification and adding solar or wind to commercial buildings or high-density residences. Half of Walnut Creek lives in multi-family complexes, yet most of the changes in the Sustainability Action Plan focus on actions individual homeowners can take.
  • Support an inclusive community by continuing staff work on addressing systemic racism, supporting unions jobs, bringing an accessibility focus to city projects and expanding Walnut Creek’s Mental Health Evaluation Team (there is only one officer and one clinician assigned to this team).
