  • Climate Resilience. Implementing solutions to the climate emergency and the management of risks such as fire, sea level rise, drought, disease, and extreme weather events

Fostering an open and transparent process, by building capacity for the engagement of diverse users and ensuring that our parks are accessible, including for those with disabilities, and representative of the current and future needs of our Bay Area communities and cultures
  • Park Use Balance. Developing science-driven criteria to minimize user conflicts and insure the preservation of natural wildlife habitats

Casey Farmer

  • Wildfire Prevention and Protection. East Bay Parks must continue to pioneer efforts to reduce wildfire risk, through continued vegetation management and fuels reduction. We must work in partnership with local agencies and our neighboring jurisdictions on fire safety planning. We must continue to close parks during “Red Flag” days and build the public’s awareness of how these closures prevent harm to our residents, emergency responders, wildlife, and “natural infrastructure” within our great parks.
  • Climate Resilience. I will champion more innovative and resilient policies to expand East Bay Parks stewardship, restoration, and growth. My framing questions are: How can our parks be better protected from climate change? How can we enhance carbon sequestration and reduction of greenhouse gasses in our parks, through stewardship of our natural infrastructure like redwoods and marshlands?
  • Expanding Access for All.  I’ll work to expand the great educational programming our Naturalists provide to students, I’ll enhance partnerships with public health agencies and I’ll ensure our parks are more accessible to youth.  As our District embarks on its “Second Century Plan,” I’ll ensure all East Bay communities are at the table – environmental groups, labor, historically underserved communities. I will champion our District’s DEI work and work with Tribal leaders to create meaningful policy around tribal relations and programming.
