The Democrats of Rossmoor will hold their general meeting on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in the Event Center. Doors will open at 6:00pm for a town square social with snacks provided by the club. Monument Crisis Center will be the charity this month. At 7:00pm, after a brief meeting, the featured speaker will be Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward Foundation, dubbed “The single largest source of Trump’s legal problems” by The Atlantic.
Perryman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Philosophy from Baylor University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a JD with honors from the Georgetown University Law Center. She began her legal career in litigation roles at WilmerHale and Covington & Burling. There she worked with clients across industries like health care, financial services, education, and consumer products.
Previously a member of Democracy Forward’s founding legal team, Perryman returned as President a few months after the events of January 6, 2021. The foundation’s website states the focus of its non-partisan team of lawyers and communicators is “to challenge abuses of power that undermine good government, support advocates engaged in transformative work and expose overlooked threats to democracy.”
The site further states that, since January 2025, Democracy Forward has filed hundreds of legal actions and launched hundreds of investigations. The foundation also houses the Democracy 2025 initiative, a strategic legal network of 700-plus organizations that work together to make sure cases are covered in the courts. The site notes that this represents “the largest, most successful affirmative litigation effort against executive branch excesses in United States history.” Time magazine named Perryman as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World of 2025.
Democracy Forward has expanded the scope and reach of its work, taking on significant issues affecting people and communities. Among these hundreds of cases are support for the National Parks Service to stop the administration’s removal of history and science from national parks and support for the rights of Minnesota detainees to legal access. Now representing the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU, Democracy Forward is suing the Department of Justice to release documents concerning its push to obtain voter files from individual states. “The right to vote, freely and fairly, is for all Americans and is a foundation of democracy,” says Perryman. “We are proud to represent the Brennan Center to force the administration to follow the law and release information on its unprecedented effort to obtain and influence voter registration lists.”
