There has been a change to the evening’s program. The speaker for the evening will be Dave Jones, Director, Climate Risk Initiative, Center for Law, Energy & the Environment at Cal Berkeley. He served two terms as California’s Insurance Commissioner from 2011 to 2018. He is a national leader and expert on climate risk and insurance regulation. He will speak to us on Zoom at the Event Center.

Before moving to the university, Jones served as California’s Insurance Commissioner from 2011 to 2018. California’s insurance market is the largest in the country. While serving, he oversaw the department’s response to increasingly large and destructive wildfires. He is currently considered to be a leader in the complex subject of climate risk and insurance regulation. While serving as insurance commissioner, he was a key figure in establishing the Climate Risk Disclosure Survey of Insurers for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. He was the founding Chairperson for the international Sustainable Insurance Forum, a network of insurance regulators from around the world. They share practices relating to climate risk and insurance sustainability.

Dave Jones served as a Sacramento city councilman, then as a representative in the California Assembly before his two terms as insurance commissioner. From 1995-1998 he was Special Assistant, then Counsel to United States Attorney General Janet Reno. In 1995, he was awarded the White House Fellowship in recognition of his academic, civic and professional accomplishments. Jones earned his B.A at DePauw University. At Harvard University he completed both his law degree and an MMP from the Kennedy School of Government. This event will be recorded. Send questions to [email protected].
