Event Description

The Democrats of Rossmoor will hold their first general meeting of 2025 on Thursday, January 23 at the Event Center. A town square social will start the evening at 6:00pm. The club will provide snacks. If you want alcohol at this event, you must bring your own beverage. After a brief meeting at 7:00pm, the speaker for the evening will be Brandie Nonnecke, director of the CITRIS Policy lab at the University of California, Berkeley.

Brandie Nonnecke, Associate Research Professor at the Goldman School of Public Policy, is the founding director of the CITRIS Policy Lab at UC Berkeley. She is also a co-director of both the Berkeley Center for Law and Tech at Berkeley Law and the UC Berkeley AI Policy Hub. She hosts TecHype, a program that uses both video and podcast to look at the benefits and risks of emerging technologies. Her research work has been published in Wired and in Science Magazine among other publications and is frequently cited in government papers and in print and on video news outlets. In 2024, she received the San Francisco Business Times Inspire award for her leadership in Artificial Intelligence.

The CITRIS Policy Lab was established in 2018. Its mission statement reads: “The CITRIS Policy Lab supports interdisciplinary research, education, and thought leadership to address core questions regarding the role of formal and informal regulation in promoting innovation and amplifying its positive effects on society.” Researchers from UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Merced and UC Santa Cruz work together on Information technologies and on applications that can be used for such projects as sustainable energy, transportation systems, robotics and artificial Intelligence.
