The Democrats of Rossmoor will hold their General Meeting on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Event Center. The evening starts with a Town Square Social at 6:00pm. The club will provide refreshments. Following a brief meeting at 7:00pm, two members of the Berkeley AI (Artificial Intelligence) Research Lab who work on cyber security, misinformation and false content, the benefits of AI, and how it has added to our lives.
Ritwik Gupta, a Ph.D. candidate, focuses on the computer vision for humanitarian assistance and disaster response as well as the development of policies related to the use of machine learning in developing areas. He brings together researchers to work on AI research through the lens of climate change, machine learning, and even partners with agencies like the FBI on crimes against adults and children. Ritwik was a panelist during the recent Human Rights Forum that was held in Rossmoor on November 15, 2023.
Sarah Barrington, a Ph.D. candidate at Berkeley, specializes in generative AI and deepfake detection. She is part of an internationally-recognized digital forensics lab and holds multiple cyber security scholar and fellow positions. Her work was featured at the 2023 Nobel Prize Summit, recognized by the United Nations, and published in Nature Scientific Reports. Sarah will present a primer on AI, the dangers, risks, mitigation efforts, benefits, and future of AI in our lives. She will show examples of deep-fakes and methods of detection in places like Russia and Ukraine. Sarah holds two master’s degrees from the Universities of Cambridge and U.C. Berkeley.
