The next general meeting of the Democrats of Rossmoor will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Event Center. Doors will open at 6:00pm for a town square social. The club will provide snacks; if you want alcohol at this event, you must bring your own beverage. Representatives from the Food Bank of Contra Costa will be present. After a brief meeting, the speaker for the evening will be Arlie Hochschild, author of Stolen Pride and the Rise of the Right.
Arlie Hochschild is a professor emeritus of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research work has focused on the emotions that lie beneath moral beliefs and practices. Her research has brought her to various social worlds in an effort to understand how private troubles and cultural norms have influenced public issues. She is the author of ten books. Her latest, Stolen Pride, was chosen by Barack Obama as one of his ten favorite books of 2024. Her 2016 book, Strangers in Their Own Land, was a finalist for the National Book Award.
Hochschild was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from Swarthmore College with a degree in International Relations. She earned both her MA and Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley. She began her academic career at the University of California, Santa Cruz. This program will be recorded.
