Event Description

On March 20, 2025, at 1:00pm in Peacock Hall, the Democrats of Rossmoor will present the political thriller, The Ides of March (2011), written, directed and featuring George Clooney, with a cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Jeffrey Wright. The film was nominated for many awards including an Oscar Nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and it earned 4 Golden Globe Nominations for Best Screenplay and Best Director (George Clooney), Best Actor (Ryan Gosling), and Best 2011 Motion Picture.

According to film critic Roger Ebert, “The screenplay is ingenious in the way it meshes personal and political ambitions. Director Clooney, who seems attracted to stories about smart men under pressure, draws back from action and plunges into intrigue.” Internet critic James Berardinelli suggests that “While The Ides of March is more about the nature of modern media politics and younger players who are strangers to idealism, the movie’s strength lies in its outstanding acting.”

The movie runs 1 hour 41 minutes and provides subtitles. Film enthusiast Lynne Thorner will facilitate a post-viewing analysis of this intriguing political drama, particularly its relevance and timeliness. Please direct questions or concerns to Lynne at [email protected].
