Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, with screenplay by Chris Terrio based on an article by Tony Mendez, Argo stars Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and Alan Arkin. In addition to 4 Oscar nominations, the film earned 3 Oscar wins for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing!
Set in 1979 Iran, the movie dramatizes the plan to free six hostages taking refuge in the home of the Canadian Ambassador in Tehran. A risky rescue plan is concocted by CIA operative Tony Mendez (Affleck): create a Canadian film to be shot in Iran and include the hostages in the production crew – an almost impossible mission to rescue the group!
One film critic wrote that “Argo is packed with a sense of threat, peril and pulse-pounding intensity all portrayed exceptionally well through the ensemble cast.” Another critic adds that “The gritty look of the film captures the film’s atmosphere and tone, while the attention to detail is enhanced by Oscar-worthy performances.”
