Event Description

The Democrats of Rossmoor will hold the August, 2026, TGWD meeting in the Fireside Room on Thursday, August 13 at 4:00pm. Daniel Squadron, of The States Project, will discuss his book The Fourth Branch. The book explores state legislatures and the power they have to shape public policy.

Daniel Squadron is one of the founders of The States Project. He is a native New Yorker who graduated from Yale University and later served nine years as a State Senator. He was first elected in 2008 and resigned in 2017 to collaborate with Adam Pritzker. Together they founded The States Project.

The website, www.statesproject.org, contains the following statement: “We believe that state legislatures are the strongest force for change in this country.” The organization focuses their efforts on making campaigns for the state legislature more effective and better funded. The group works to educate voters to the governing power, accorded by the Constitution of the United States, to the individual states. These include laws governing education, health care, environment and infrastructure. In his book, The Fourth Branch, Squadron outlines the approach this organization uses to offer voters a way to more actively participate in the democratic process. His presentation will cover this and will be followed by time for questions. Contact [email protected] for more information.
