On Monday, August 3, 2026, at 3:00pm in MPR 1, the Democrats of Rossmoor book club will discuss The Fourth Branch by Daniel Squadron, co-founder of the States Project. A States Project representative will speak at a July meeting, and copies will be available by a representative of Orinda Books.
The publisher writes: “In The Fourth Branch, Squadron reveals the often-overlooked power of state legislatures. Nearly every major issue—from climate change to gun control—can be determined without federal involvement. This guide details the States Project’s approach to combating conservative manipulation at the state level, offering an urgent framework for democratic participation. It’s engagingly narrated by Squadron’s experiences as a New York State Senator and his work with inspiring lawmakers.”
This coming November Rossmoor residents will elect new members of the City Council as well as members of the Assembly and State Government. It is these offices that the States Project are concerned that Democrats ignore while concerning themselves with the government in Washington.
The Kindle edition costs $15, and Amazon sells it in hardcover for $25. It’s also available at local bookstores.
It is not necessary to be a member to attend the book club but membership can be obtained at democratsofrossmoor.org.
