Take Action Right Now!

Defending Democracy has become a full time effort!

It requires more than just your vote! Here are voter engagement activities to spread the truth about the issues and how elected representatives vote versus what they say they support.

Registered to Vote?

If you have had a change of address since the last election – even moving within Rossmoor – you must re-register. This is very important since every voter in California votes by mail, your ballot is mailed to you.

Writing Postcards

“For the presidential primary (2020), postcard receivers were approximately 8.3% more likely to vote than people who did not receive postcards.” (Sister District Action Network)

Order 25 or more postcards, names and addresses from our partner organization, Commit to Democracy and pick them up in Rossmoor. Campaigns vary, postcards and scripts are provided. You write them, stamp and mail them.

Texting

Send prepared messages on your computer or iPad. By working with Commit to Democracy’s “Democracy Text Team”, you will text with several different organizations that develop unique texting campaigns to potential voters, inconsistent voters, even to Democrats to encourage them to run for office. Sign up for training, text on your own, or join a “text bank” session.

Democrats of Rossmoor Action Alert Response Team

The DRAAT team conveys our opinions on important legislation to our federal, state, and local political leaders. Our elected officials rely on these calls to understand constituent attitudes. Their staff is required to log your opinion and report to the elected official. We supply contact information and a script, the calls take 1-2 minutes.

Contact Katha Hartley, 805-907-5096.
You will be alerted by email when calls are needed.

Phone Banks and Door To Door Canvassing

Direct conversations is the most effective way to get out the vote. Phone banking and canvassing efforts can lead to a 3% increase in voter turnout, per CallHub

We organize in person phone banks here in Rossmoor and we organize door to door canvassing efforts in Contra Costa County and carpool to CA Congressional Districts to help elect Democrats. We engage people to get them registered to vote, we discuss the issues with them, and we encourage/remind them to vote.

Join the Voter Registration Teams

Democrats of Rossmoor register new voters, sign up new members, and educate voters about endorsed candidates and issues. We have a table at the Gateway Farmers Market each Friday from May to October and we table and roam with clipboards at other Farmers Markets and events in Contra Costa County and many retirement homes in the County. You will be trained and paired with an experienced partner. Some events are also out of the County and carpools will be arranged.

Other Actions to Consider

Financially Support Grassroots Organizations or Help Your Neighbors. In 2024 Support the Biden-Harris campaign.

Sometimes giving money is the action you want to take but the requests are overwhelming. Democrats of Rossmoor recommend you focus on a few key elections and organizations and forget the rest.

The more you focus your giving, the more effective your dollar will be. The following are suggestions:

Candidates

Presidential Campaign

Give a monthly amount to the Biden-Harris campaign. Regular donations helps the campaign by developing a record of unique small donors for fundraising purposes. A small amount (as low $20) is enough, $46 would be better.

Senate Campaigns

California has a Senate race this year you can help your preferred Democratic candidate before the Primary

Congressional Campaigns

Winning the Congress runs through California consider giving before the Primary to the Democratic candidate who holds your values most in Districts with the best chance to elect a Democrat to Congress.

Organizations

Give to organizations you know about or have worked with or whose values you support. Forget the rest!
