A Congressperson from Long Island, who served from 2001–2016, laments the consistently lame Congressional responses to 52 mass killings during his legislative career. Republicans are not our only politicians who say their prayers yet refuse to elevate the rights of children to live over the so-called right to bear assault weapons; some Democrats have also caved to the NRA or NRA-phobia. The writer claims that sensibly strict gun control and a ban on weapons of mass murder are impossible to federally legislate in this country. If we work hard enough, long enough, he may be wrong.
